£125m “Smart Motorway System” planned for M60

Sedgley Cllr Alan Quinn recently attended a presentation from the  Highways Agency regarding Their plans to spend £125m implementing a “Smart Motorway System” on the M60. Alan says ” The Highways Agency calculate that traffic is going to increase by 44% in the future and the smart motorway system controls and regulates traffic by governing speed and using the hard shoulder.” Alan urged the Highways agency to utilise local labour and create apprenticeships as well as sourcing as much of the procurement in the UK, he added ” it’s vital that government money is spent in this country”.
