Dear Fellow
Resident,
The NHS is a unique service
which makes me proud to be British. There for us and out families
when we need it from the cradle to the grave.
All too often we take for
granted the fact that, unlike in other countries and here before
the NHS was created, when sick we are given the treatment we need
without being asked for our credit card or chequebook.
I am proud that Labour created
the NHS and our record investment since 1997 has rebuilt the NHS,
but the real heroes are the Doctors, Nurses and Support staff who
improve and save lives on a daily basis.
By the end of this year there
will be a maximum wait for most surgery of 18 weeks from visiting
your GP to having the necessary operation. The average wait will be
far less. Eleven years ago people waited years in pain and misery
for basic treatment.
Our Future Offer
My colleague, Ara Darzi the
eminent surgeon, has set out a vision building on the past ten
years for the NHS to move from being good in most areas to
excellent everywhere.
For Patients:
- Dignity, respect and
compassion to be at the heart of all good clinical
care.
- Getting the basics right.
Cleanliness and patient safety to be non-negotiable in all
hospitals.
- Better information about your
condition and treatment.
- The right to all approved
drugs.
- Community services which are
organised around busy family and working lives, i.e. some evening
and weeking surgeries.
For Staff:
- A working environment of trust
and respect.
- The chance to influence the
development of the services you provide.
- Support to innovate and design
improvements which are right for your patients and the local
community.
- Access to high-quality
training.
Locally:
New GP-led health centres are
planned for Whitefield and Prestwich. The new Radcliffe Centre is
under construction and will open later this year.
