Children from schools across Bury South had a fantastic time at a special culinary trip around the world at OLOG church hall in Prestwich.
The healthy eating event was arranged by Ivan Lewis to give children the experience of tasting all types of exotic foods from around the globe and help promote the idea that healthy food can be exciting and delicious. Ivan said, “It’s our role as adults to help guide our children towards making those healthy choices which will have a profound impact on the way their adult health and wellbeing develop as a result of their lifestyle and eating habits. This event was designed specifically to further increase the children's awareness of how healthy food can be fun and tasty!”
The children were given the opportunity to sample exotic and unusual fruits as well as learning about dietary habits in the countries where they are grown. All the children tried at least one food they had never had before, and many were going to ask their parents to add more and different fruits to their weekly shop.
The children also met with the Besses Children's Centre Healthy Eating mascot, Bessie the Banana, who led the group in a song which further reinforced the message that a healthy lifestyle can be as fun as you make it.
