   Stand Up For Radcliffe

SCHOOL PLAN

I, the undersigned:

  1. Welcome the council's recent decision that the new state-of-the-art Radcliffe Riverside School will open in January 2009
  2. Believe that the school must offer 900 secondary places as originally planned so as to ensure Radcliffe families have the right to send their children to this new and improving school in the future
  3. Support the view that Radcliffe families deserve the best and this school is the most powerful symbol yet of a community with a bright future

This was a con from start to finish they had no intention of building a new high school just keeps people quiet for a few years thinking they are going to get a new school what else do you expect from devious councellers that say one thing and mean another.

Suggest you check the numbers on roll at Radcliffe infant and junior schools: EVEN JANUARY 2009 would have caused Radcliffe children to travel outside the town for their Secondary education for at least three years. THESE TORIES NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED AND SURCHARGED FOR THE NEGLECT OF THEIR DUTY OF CARE IN THIS CASE. That is our opinion.

Dear Ivan, I think Bury tory controlled council should be ashamed of themselves for letting the people of radcliffe down and not going ahead with the building of the new school. Also the centre of radcliffe that should have been redeveloped.

Investment in Radcliff is long overdue. Radcliffe children deserve a purpose built state of the art up to date school for its young people. Every child matters. A two tier system is not fair and not equitable. The leader and I use this term lightly of the present administration deserves nothing from the people of Bury. He does not even live within the boundaries of Bury. SHAME.

Jill, Many thanks for getting in touch. I couldn't agree with you more about the need for the promised new school in Radcliffe. I can honestly say in 18 years as a local and national elected representative this is the biggest betrayal of my constituents that I have experienced. In my view the Tory Council has done everything possible to blight Radcliffe Riverside in an attempt to ensure the new school is never built. For me Radcliffe chilren and their families have a right to expect the best which is why I will not rest until the council keeps its promise and ensures this school is built. It is central to the future vibrancy and success of Radcliffe as a town. Ivan

The school is needed very much but looking at the situation at the moment would you send your child there. New school new people from all areas wanting to come. It's needed!

Many thanks for your comment. It is essential Radcliffe has a new school as promised. It is important for the educational opportunities of Radcliffe children but also for the future economic and social success of the town. The constant delays which are the responsibility of the council's current leadership are nothing less than a disgrace. It is their actions which are blighting Radcliffe Riverside and causing parents to seek school places elsewhere. I will continue to apply pressure so the new state of the art school is built. Ivan

Having just seen the Bury schools award of places with all but one school (Rad Riverside) over applied for, how sad to see only 54 places awarded with 200 vacant at Radcliffe Riverside (reflecting first choice by parent). It does make one wonder if the school is needed or should we invest more at the site of say Derby and improve the transportation? The proposed site isn't exactly gifted with easy access.

As a Methodist minister in Radciffe who has responsibility at Radcliffe Hall CE/Methodist Primary School I fully support the original plans for a 900 place high school in Radcliffe. Every young person in Radcliffe needs to know they are valued and have access to high quality education in their own town.

I fully support for a 900 place school as promise in the frist place which was agreed in the first place as now its being downgraded and its unfair for the kids in the future as Radcliffe has promising future within the town and the loacl council are letting the town down again as its been downhill for years and now its time to improve Radcliffe as more people are wanting to move into Radcliffe.

I support the 900 place school. Radcliffe children deserve and need it. Working from a split site can only ever be a temporary measure. When the new school is built more Radcliffe parents will want to send their children to school in Radcliffe.

What a surprise, you could guarantee that if this school were to be built in Bury, it would be open now with state of the art everything and catering for 1000+ pupils. I'm fed up of Bury Metro treating it's satellite towns as some third world embarassment. I'm not saying that Bury council are crooked, but they could hide behind corkscrews!

What will be next, they have started with the numbers, next it will be, how much they are going to spend on equipment for the school and then finally the budget for teachers. They promised us a super school. Personally I thought this would be a great move for Radcliffe as for so many years it has been neglected from support where other area's have had great amounts of money spent on them. Now its our turn and once again we are slowly but surely going to loose out. Radcliffe has a great community and its about time we where given what we deserve.

As a new resident to Radcliffe in the past 12mths, one of the things that impressed me when moving into the area was the plans for the new school. I now find it immensly frustrating the conservative coucil are trying to downsize these great plans which radcliffe so deserves after being sat in the background for so many years.

Radcliffe should have its promised 900 place school. For too long the children of Radcliffe have been poached by other schools. The current school provides good education and with a new school pupils and parents will be keen to return.

Radcliffe needs this school to be built as it was first specified for 900+ students. As soon as the building starts I believe we would have a upturn in parents wanting there children to attend the new Riverside School. Radcliffe also needs this school as a central part of the regeneration of Radcliffe to be used by the whole communty

Riverside is a school that through the hard work of the headteacher and her staff has improved imensely over the last few years. Radcliffe needs a 900 place school to service the needs of those who will wish to 'come back to Radcliffe' and for the occupants of all the new housing we are building.
